Her modeling career began in 1990 and soon moved to acting after guest appearances on TV series like Boy Meets World or High Incident. Her debut film role came on 1997's dramatic Nowhere. Her performances as a character in American Beauty, for which she received the BAFTA Award nomination and American Pie led to her being the subject of more recognition. In 2000, she was in American Pie alongside American Pie co star Jason Biggs. Then, she played the lead role for the role of Sugar & Spice (2002). She had appearances in the independent drama Spun and the 2004 horror feature Trauma. She also appeared in the HBO television drama Six Feet Under. The show aired in 2004. In 2008, she was seen in various films like Day of the Dead The Mysteries of Pittsburgh or the adaptation film of The Garden of Eden.
